The legal system of compensation of oil pollution damage by ships has not been established in our country still. By the theoretical analysis for some main problems of the international legal system of oil pollution damage by ships and the legislative and legal practical experience of some advanced countries, the author discusses in this paper some important legal problems, such as the law application about the cases of the civil compensation of oil pollution damage by ships, the range of oils and ships in the international conventions and the relevant range in the Chinese legislations, the range of the civil compensation of oil pollution damage by ships, the joint and several compensation liability of oil pollution damage caused by ships collision, which are necessary to the establishment of the Chinese legal system of compensation of oil pollution damage by ships. The author also hopes to give some juristic theoretical reference for the relevant legislations with his own legislative suggestions in this paper.
