| As market economy mechanism establishes and China has entered WTO, Chinese traditional manufacturing is facing more and more challenges, but also great chances to evolve. Chinese manufacturing enterprises have to improve their management and technology. Chinese government brought forward a strategy of reforming traditional manufacturing with information technologies. Many manufacturing enterprises are trying to improve themselves by information technology in China now. Information technologies surely will increase the response to market, the flexibility of a manufacturing enterprise, and will make enterprises much stronger to face competition. Based on Shannxi QinChuan Machine Tools Group, which is a typical discrete manufacturing enterprise, a web-based ERP system is devised, developed and successfully implemented. The ERP system applied new information technologies, and also modern management theory.The main content is listed as follows:(1) Make a survey of world leading ERP system provider, and cases of successful implementation of ERP system, then summarize the common characteristic of those world leading ERP system and common ways and means of implementation of ERP system.(2) Analyze the management mechanism of Qinchuan Group, describe the function model by IDEF0, and point out management problems in the enterprise. Based on the theory of BPR(Business Process Reengineering), a new management mechanism, which is accommodated to information technologies, is surrendered.(3) By the tool of IDEF0, a branch of structured design method, design the function model of QinChuan ERP(QCERP) system. (4) By ASP, Java and database knowledge, a web-based ERP system was developed for discrete manufacturing enterprise.(5) Customized the web-based ERP system to Qinchuan Group and successfully implemented the system step by step. The management system of Qinchuan Group was highly improved.
