An Analysis Of The Current Status And Study On The Strategies For IC Industry Of China

Integrated circuit (IC) industry is of a knowledge, technology and capitalconcentrated nature. IC industry in the world develops extremely fast and thetechnology improves everyday. Although currently China's IC industry is not fullydeveloped, taking into consideration of either quality or quantity of the products, withthe shifting of the global industry centre to the east and with the stable economicgrowth, enormous market demands and abundant human and natural resourcesavailable in China, the development of China's IC industry has favourable conditionsin all aspects, and it is expected that in the near future China will become the new ICmanufacturing centre in the world. In this regard, there are questions that are worthfurther studying and necessary to be properly resolved, such as how to borrow theexperiences and lessons of other countries and districts, what the current status ofChina's IC industry is, what policies should be adopted to accelerate the developmentof China's IC industry so as to make it competitive and powerful, etc. Thisdissertation serves as a spur to introduce more valuable contributions on the subjectmatter of the development of China's IC industry. Firstly, the author describes the relevant concepts of IC industry and discussesthe major features of IC industry. Secondly, based on the introduction of the development trend of the global ICindustry, the author describes in details the IC industry in Korea and Taiwan, andelaborates on the experiences of Korea's IC industry and the features of Taiwan's ICindustry as well as the inspiration to us. Thirdly, the author analyses and discusses the current status of China's ICindustry. Through the analysis of the development route of China's IC industry, theauthor makes a summary of the features of the development of China's IC industryand points out its major problems and deficiency. Finally, taking into consideration of other countries' and districts' experiences indeveloping the IC industry and the current status of China's IC industry, the authorconcludes nine points for accelerate the development of China's IC industry: (i)studying the regular patterns and reaching common views; (ii) unifying the planningschedules and centralising the leadership; (iii) perfecting innovation system toaccelerate technical innovations; (iv) catching the opportunity of the shifting of ITindustry and optimising the industry chain; (v) transferring toward the end of high-technology and new knowledge concentrated; (vi) increasing the competitiveness ofChinese companies on the international market; (vii) properly resolving the sixessential problems in the development of China's IC industry; (viii) strengthening thecooperation in the IC industry between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait; and (ix)promote the sustainability of the development of China's IC industry. By and large, the IC industry is the core of the IT industry and modernmanufacturing industry and has been regarded by some countries as the mostsignificant part in the development of their IT industry. Compared to other districts,China is a new player in the IC industry. However, the new changes in the ICindustry in the new century have brought opportunities for the rising of China's ICindustry. If we take use of such opportunities, China can become not only a hot landof IC industry but also a country with a powerful IC industry. Now, at the time ofsudden changes in the IC industry, unprecedented opportunities will be available forthe soar of China's IC industry, which is currently not fully developed though.
