It is widely accepted that Japanese economy has made enormous success, and her corporate management has gradually developed into a unique model, which received lots of concern in the west. However, at the beginning of the 1990s, with the recovery of American economy, the improvement of western companies competitiveness along with Japanese domestic long-term economy stagnation caused by collapse of bubble economy, Japanese companies lost the leading position and absolute dominance in the world market. The Japan-specific corporate management once enjoying highly regard had now been exposed to general queries. Many scholars thought that Japanese corporate management had already fallen out of date when Japanese miracle ended, and Japanese companies were unable to adapt to the new global competitive environment. If Japanese company did not carry on the reforms, it would lose competitiveness and be finally eliminated. Thus, many scholars advocated the overall westernization of the Japanese corporate management models. So, whether the Japanese corporate management has been already out of date, or whether there is competitiveness in Japanese companies has aroused the academia disputes currently. In view of this controversial issue, the paper tries to make a thorough study on the Japanese corporate management from a new prospective in order to add insight to the JCM.The paper is divided into four parts.Part one makes a detailed introduction about the characteristics of post-war Japanese corporate management and analyzes the major reasons and determinants for Japanese corporate management success.Part two presents a series of changes in the corporate management and reforms by Japanese companies responding to the situation, through combining the changes of the international economy, especially the Japanese social and economic changes after the bubble economy. In part three, based on the discussion of Japanese corporate management in the academia, through annotating and defining the competitiveness again, the author analyzes some factors related to Japanese corporate management and its competitiveness, such as: social culture, enterprise relationship and production mode.At last, the author explores that, though Japanese management has changed greatly under the new environment with lots of setbacks incurred by many companies in the global competition, the core of Japanese corporate management still has its own strength, and Japanese incorporated businesses will remain their strong competitiveness in the global market.
