Female labor force participation rate(FLFPR) is an important gauge to measure women's place in a country. Women's labor force participation is not only of significance for many women in going after economic independence, self-development and sexual equality, but also concerns the whole social progress and incessant development. Based on the generalization of predecessors' basic research and positive analysis, this dissertation calculates Chinese town's FLFPR from 1986 to 2001. Compared with other countries and the past of my country, it is analyzed that the real reason why the FLFPR in our country stays high in the world is plan economic employment system. With the market-reformation carried out, employers, who expect to maximize their profit, decrease the demand for the women employee in view of their non-wage cost, which results in the decline of FLFPR.Furthermore, by building models and comparing data, this dissertation analyzes the different influences on FLFPR from such factors as sexual wage differentials, housework change, female education, human capital accumulation and divorce etc. Besides, on the basis of the theoretical and empirical analyses, this dissertation draws a conclusion that in our country, some factors such as developing service industry, rising divorce and enlarging in size of family promote the FLFPR' increase. On the other hand, the increase of female students in campus can also enhance FLFPR in a long time. However, in a short time, it delays female participating market-work. And what is more, the income effect of a wage change almost counteracts its substitution effect for women. Finally, it is proposed that with the development of economics and society, more and more women will participate in market-work in order to go after economic independence and self-development. Therefore, FLFPR in our country will arise as in the developed countries in the future. But in fact, nowadays, our country's market-reformation leads to the difficulty of obtaining employment for more and more women. To solve this problem, the author argues that first of all, measures should be taken to decrease female employed cost or increase male employed cost for the equation of sexual competing strength. At the same time, our country should try hard to develop service industry and market housework. This can assist women in acquiring the opportunity of employment more easily. And this will increase female labor force participation rate.
