With increasing of leisure time and income, a new trend of progressive increase in consumption on nonmaterial products occurs. Ir 2003, each Shanghai inhabitant paid 3369 yuan for service consumption on aveige, which had a big proportion reached 30% of whole consumption. The piyout of culture and entertainment on average was 1834 yuan, which became the second important item of consumption next to food. These mean that leisure gradually becomes the new increasing point for the city economy. Thus, putting more emphasis and doing further academic research on inhabitants' leisure ictivities will be of positive impact on the development of leisure industry and the disposal of leisure resource in Shanghai.This paper researches the Shanghai inhabitants' leisure activities. Applying foreign and domestic scholars' theories about leisure activities, the paper analyzes the results of questionnaire survey to attain some reasonable conclusions, by means of reviewing history, investigating situation, and predicting future. Firstly, the paper reveals the process of change of Shanghai inhabitants' leisure activities in both time and space dimensions, and factors that influence the change. Secondly, the paper summarizes the identities and trends of Shanghai inhabitants' leisure activities. Thirdly, the paper explores the trend of change of leisure activities, in addition to the layout of Shanghai in the future. Fourthly, the paper gives some suggestions to the Shanghai leisure industry.As a metropolitan, Shanghai has more mature leisure industry. The research on Shanghai inhabitants' leisure activities is not only instructive to Shanghai, but also to the other domestic cities, which hope to develop their leisure culture and industry.The paper is consisted by 4 chapters. The 1st chapter is exordium. The 2nd chapter states the trace of development of inhabitants' leisure activities, and the change of layout of leisure district. The 3rd chapter is the result and analysis of a leisure activities survey. The 4th chapter summarizes the factors that influence leisure activities, and gives some suggestions.
