In 2004, the Foreign Trade Index of China has risen sharply to 70%, from the level of 9.8% in 1978. What does this roaring index mean to China, and what kinds of problems can be reflected with our foreign trade structure and strategy? Based on the traditional and new foreign trade theories as well as the detailed and accurate data, this paper takes Foreign Trade Index as a tool to analyze China's Foreign Trade Structure, which has four forms of expression: Commodity Composition of Foreign Trade, Mode Structure of Foreign Trade, Model Structure of Foreign Trade, Region Structure of Foreign Trade. Through a series of analysis and comparison, the paper probes the hidden structural problems of China's foreign trade, and tries to explore feasible policy advice and solutions.
