Democracy has been the focus of our government. The importance of democracy for China's development is emphasized from the government work report to the leader's speeches, which advocate carrying out the democratic polity. The attention of domestic academic circles to democracy in China has always been on the rise. The topics are on whether we need democracy and how to develop democracy etc. Have been discussed continuously The academic views on democracy can be divided into two categories roughly; the one, represented by YuKeping, advocates that democracy is universal and can control corruption, that neither democracy nor the rule of law can be abandoned, which enjoys the same democratic ideas with the party and government, namely advocating democracy in China; the other one, represented by PanWei, advocates that democracy isn't universal, and it will lead to corruption instead of controlling it, that China should carry out rule of law rather than democracy. So what the college students' point of view on the development of democracy in China?Will they agree with the party and government and Chinese scholars views? This paper is to explore more by empirical study to realize university students' understanding of democracy and to provide advice to the school's political education, thus in this way to promote college students' political socialization smoothly.The study has obtained the connotation and characteristics of democracy and its influence factors in quantitative research through Factor Analysis, Multiple Regression Analysis of Dummy Variable, Amos Analysis and so on many kinds of statistical analysis method. The data of it is obtained by interviewing 1295 college students from 14 universities in Beijing.We used the Factor Analysis, Amos and Multiple Regression Analysis of Dummy Variable to analyze the survey. The Factor Analysis shows that there are three dimensions in the democratic character that common character and Chinese and western character. Western democracies include freedom and participation and pluralism democracy. China's lies in the party and government, including the scholars'views represented Bates, PanWei as a representative of scholars'views. It shows that students are more agree with the common democratic character, students are more agree with the party, government and Yu Keping's views for democracy of china,students also agree that it's participatory democracy. The result from the Multiple Regression Analysis shows that factors, such as gender, school situation, the political landscape, professional, religious, father's occupation, have obvious influences on university students'views on democracy.
