The Study Of Betty Friedan's Feminist Thought

Betty Friedan is the pioneer of The Amrican feminist movement, her theories had raised the the second wave of feminist movement .Her thought was based on the American women's living situation and difficulties they faced between 1960s to 1980s , she used liberalism theories as her theoretical perspective. She believed that the women also have the same ability and rationality as the men, therefore the women should have the same freedom and rights as the men , women's right should not be limited by some sex-discrimination law ,and the women as social beings are equal as the men.Friedan succeeded and developed Mary Wollstonecraft and John Stuart Mill's feminist thought, she paid more attention to women's education and encouraged women to enter the public realm, then abtained the independence on economic and personality. Friedan's feminist thought in early period revealed the unknown problem, then she begined to question the mystique of female. Therefore she advocated that women should find their own new life. In her later thought she awared that refer to male standard for obtaining the equality could bring more pressure to women, then she reflected the feminist thought on the previous stage, she considered that family is important to pursuit equality. Also she analyzed the limitation and potentiality of feminist power, and proposed to use Beta style to solve the problems that women faced. Friedan's feminist thought broke the previous single mode of thinking, and provided some theoretical arguments for women to entered the broader public realm. Friedan's thought has enlightenment on the development of our country's women. Our contry's women should improve their own consciousness, and locate their own value correctly, furthermore the society should change the traditional awareness about women's gender roles, Friedan encouraged to establish cooperation partnership, and play their respective advantages to build a harmonious, just and efficient society together.
