In an effort to improve production efficiency and product quality, firms have begun to look beyond their own boundaries and consider the overall design of their supply chains. One aspect of this change of focus is that firms are outsourcing more of their part and component production to members of their supply chain. In the process of new product development(NPD), supplier participation in NPD reduce project development lead times and project cost,improve perceived procuct quality and technology.supplier's involvement in development project is very important to enterprise. Three research issues are addressed in this thesis: 1. Analyze the role of suppliers in NPD, in new product development process, if manufacturers couldn't clearly identify the features and responsibilities of different suppliers, negative effects would be brought to the development process. This thesis analyzes how to distinguish the different responsibilities of suppliers through practical investigation in an aerial institute, and proposes appropriate management method accordingly. Firstly, classify externally supplied components by using cluster analysis. Then responsibilities of suppliers are analyzed. Finally, how enterprises should treat suppliers with different responsibilities is discussed. 2. Identifying controlling features (group of tasks characterized as high rework risk) of parallel design. The design structure matrix (DSM) is useful in identifying the flow of information, this instrument is extend in this thesis, data of rework risk is filled in DSM, then the powerful extension of the DSM can predict convergence of design iteration, identify controlling features of parallel design and time of design .3.In the stage of evaluation and improvement on primary design, this thesis establishes a product design model based on requirements that target market put on these factors by employing analytic network process, Due to complexity of product structure ,there exist interactions among these factors which can not be ignored . Then evaluates design on the basis of this model, compares the product design and competitive products, finds drawbacks of the product design and proposes improvement schemes which is accord with the product development strategy of the enterprise and matches market requirements.
