There are many researches on teams, and most of them have been focusing on how to build a team. In my view, the goal people have in probing into the building of a team is not to understand the process itself, but to understand how to improve, by way of forming a team, which actually implies applying a management model, the operation efficiency of an organization. In nature, team is of a particular form of formal groups. It's a quantitative generalization and description of a group that has certain specific status or features, and the concept of team itself dose not imply any level of efficiency or result. Though indeed there is the possibility that the forming of teams can lead to the enforcement to the functions simply added up from those of each individual team members, i.e. 1+1>2, the resultant relative high level of efficiency is not, however, inherent to the forming of teams. The efficiency of a team is the result of the interaction between the internal factors of the team and its outside environments, rather than the forming activity. Now we can concludethat people study teams not for team the concept, but for building teams with efficiency by applying the knowledge deducted from the study. A team with efficiency is the observable demonstration of the result of the interaction of its internal factors with its outside environments, and its high-level of efficiency implies people's high-profile evaluation of its internal-external interaction, or to say, it's the demonstration of the satisfaction of the involved team beneficiaries. If we closely look into the building process of a team with efficiency, it can be understood that a team with efficiency has to meet the following conditions: a. a suitable team structure which is the internal base to enable high-efficiency; b. team spirit which motivates the team to seek for high efficiency; c. the external organizational environment which supports the team to achieve high efficiency. In the past researches, due to the fact that a team theoretically will demonstrate coordinated effect, people often simply equate for granted a team with a team with efficiency. As the result, the relationship between the two concepts of team and team with efficiency is usually not differentiated or clarified, and the researches on team building are often carried out on an isolated ground, ignoring the effects of the environmental context to teams. Teams built following the theory thus formed obviously wouldn't lead to high efficiency. To be of some help to the practical building of a team...
