Study On The Regional Development And Space Structure Of Fujian Province

Since the foundation of the People's Republic of China, especially since the reform and opening policy was introduced, Fujian province has gained rapid economic development, and its space structure has also undergone great changes. Based on the theory of regional development and space structure, this thesis is meant to make a discussion from the viewpoint of theory about pursuing the objective to expand the hinterland of economic development in Fujian province, boost the integral competitive power and strive for building the west-bank economic zone across the Straits featuring opening to the outside world, coordinated development and all-round prosperity, by means of analyzing the regional economic development and space structure of Fujian province and probing into the strategies of space development of Fujian province.In this thesis, well-founded on full and accurate data, the changing process of regional economic difference of Fujian province since the reform and opening policy was carried out is analyzed with real evidence, taking individual counties and cities as analysis units. First, the research method of quantitative analysis is used to analyze this province as a whole. The result of the analysis shows that, since 1978, the absolute difference in regional economy of the whole province is constantly expanding while the relative difference slowly narrowing. Second, the comprehensive economic power of individual counties and cities is reckoned according to that in 1983,1990, 1995 and 2002 respectively. In addition, the layout maps of the space structure of Fujian province in the above-mentioned years are drawn in light of the comprehensive power of each of the counties and cities. These efforts are intended to reveal the evolutional characteristics of the space structure of Fujian province and analyze the impetus mechanism of space structure. Finally, it is expounded that the strategies of opening wider to the outside world, intensifying the connection with the interior areas and implementing gradient development have been carried out in Fujian province in order to construct the west-bank economic zone across the Straits. As a result, a conception of optimizing space structure is put forward, that is, to optimize the eight growth poles and the structure in the shape of the Chinese word "kai (å¼€) " in order to promote the construction and formation of the west-bank economic zone across the Straits.
