With the development of the market economy in China, more concerns are focused on the economic values of wild animals and their byproducts. Wildlife industries, based on the wild animals and their byproducts, integrate various industries and branches, including wildlife breeding industry, wildlife processing industry, wildlife trade and tourism, etc. It aims to the rational exploitation and sustainability of wildlife, along with the balance of natural environment. In 2001, China has successfully accessed to World Trade Organization (WTO) so that more global and international competitions are challenging the wildlife industries of China today. A series of consequence should be realized: How to understand the opportunities and problems taken by the competitions; how to take use of advanced experiences both at home and abroad; and how about the standardization and scientific management of wildlife industries, and so on.The general purpose of this thesis is to explore and evaluate the ongoing improvement of wildlife industries in China. Methodology, by-comparison, is mainly carried out with the consideration of the history and development of wildlife industries of two countries, China and Australia. It is supposed that there would be plenty of similarities between two countries, for instance, they are both rich in species of animals and they both consider the sustainability as a crucial strategy of national development. It is indicated in this thesis that emphases of administrating wildlife industries of China should be put on the relation of appropriate protection, effective development and rational exploitation. In the end, feasible suggestions are also provided in terms of improvement of wildlife industries management of China. First of all, the development of wildlife industries should be further strengthened for the sake of effective protection, using products of breeding animals instead of those of wild animals in order to meet the increasing demands of wildlife resources; secondly, the standardization of management should be taken seriously, which is crucial to build up wildlife industries, such as licenses of various levels of markets, rules and regulations of marks, and so on; thirdly, it should also be taken into account the inside optimizations of wildlife industries and the coordination with relevant industries like technical support, information services, quarantine of products, etc., which would be pathways to engender promising wildlife industries of China.
