Economy globlization and finance liberalization becomes irreversible trend since 1990' s. Western courtries loosen finance supervision step by step. The tide of bank M&A has been sweeping throughout the world, which exercises profound influence over world economy. According to the agreement reached by China and WTO, our financial market will be completely opened to the world during the following five years. Domestic commercial banks have to face the challenge from foreign megabanks. M%A is of far-reaching significance to speed our finance structural reforms and to optimize resources allocation so as to meet the challenge from WTO and promote our economy increasing. The thesis analyses the trend and theory of M%A of bank by using the basic economics principles and integrating quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis,static analysis with dynamic analysis. In view of exisiting problems, The thesis carries some attempts to putting forword some trains of thought and corresponding countermeasure of M&A of our commercial banks. The whole thesis is composed of four parts. The first part presents the basic concept and influence of bank M&A in the world. The second part analyses the present situation and the tendency of M%A of bank abroad , and makes a systematic study on the reasons of bank M&A. The third part analyses our banks' present situation and initial effects and major problems of bank M&A. The fourth part analyses the policy and strategy of bank M&A in China, Our commercial banks should give energetic impetus to banks' reform, develop and perfect our capital market, strengthen the strategic M&A motives, tighten up banks' integration and quicken our banks' strategic merger&acquisition.
