Transition Of Coast Defence Strategy In Later Period Of Qing Dynasty

In the history of the human being ,Coast defence is a crucial factor to the development of the nation, it has something to do with the rise and fall of the great power. During the period from the Opium War to in Sino-Japanese War of 1894's ,China's coast defense was frequently invaded by the imperialism, it had to face serious crisis which stimulated the development of coast defense thought . In this paper, the author explored the coast defence thought and tried to learn something useful from it.The development of the latter Qing dynasty coast defense thought may divide into five times.After the first Opium War, the latter Qing dynasty coast defense thought germinated . The first Opium War , China first time encounters the western big powers from the marine large-scale invasion, the people feel threats from navy, the coast defense thought started the seed. The main representative personage is Lin Zexu and Wei Yuan. Lin Zexu proposed"offshore defense thought". And he is also the first man to advocate constructing the navy. Although his thought was just germinating, also had its inevitable social class limitation, but his thought had profound influence to his time and even the later generation. After Lin Zexu,the other important man is Wei Yan. He inherited and developed Lin Zexu's coast defense thought,caused it to systematize.
