The Inheritance And Development Of Deng Xiaoping To The Chinese Traditional Culture

The relationship between Mao Zedong Thought and Chinese traditional culture has aroused the interest of many foreign and Chinese scholars. Thus it has been deeply explored, and lots of monographs concerning it have been published. However, the research on the relationship between Deng Xiaoping and Chinese traditional culture is comparatively shallow.As a representative of the leadership of the CPC, Comrade Deng Xiaoping is the chief architect of China's socialist modernization drive, and creates a theory of building socialism with Chinese characteristics, which has successfully solved the problem of "what is socialism, and how to build it".The origin of this theory should be lucubrated from following aspects, such as Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, the various practical activities of modern China and the personal quality of Deng Xiaoping himself. At the same time, it should be put into a larger cultural context to research the relationship between him and traditional culture from the angle of philosophy, economics and politics, etc., so as to provide a new train of thought for revealing and studying the historic origin and the profound national feature of Deng Xiaoping Theory. Therefore, we should penetrate into the relationship between Deng Xiaoping and Chinese traditional culture, treat traditional culture accurately, keep sober-minded in the process of the modernization of traditional culture, and build the advanced socialist culture with Chinese characteristics smoothly on the basis of critique and inheritance.This thesis discusses the influence of Chinese traditional culture on the edifying and molding of Deng Xiaoping's personality and studies the relationship between his theory of building socialism with Chinese characteristics and Chinese traditional culture, aiming at finding a best interface of these two aspects and systematically expounding Deng Xiaoping's inheritance and development of the Chinese traditional culture.The present study is made up of three parts:Part One deals with the influence of Chinese traditional culture on the edifying and molding of Deng Xiaoping's personality. Under the influence of Chinese traditional culture, Deng Xiaoping deeply loves his motherland, strongly seeks truth and never goes to extremes with dialectical thinking.In the second part, the attitude of Deng Xiaoping towards the Chinese traditional culture is investigated. He comments the traditional culture by words "distillate" and "draft", and advocates "accepting the distillate, rejecting the draft, making the past serve the present, and getting rid of the stale and bringing forth the fresh".
