In this article, the author points out that one of the important causes for the poor result in current ideological and political education is the long-held educator-centred educational mode which, to a large degree, neglects the functions of people who are educated and their receiver status, and which fails to pay enough attention to their reasonable demands. By making use of the theory in reception, he makes a study of the reception mechanism in ideological and political education. The author holds that the basic elements involved in ideological and political education comprises subjects, objects, intermediaries and surroundings. Each of the four elements stands on their own, but at the same time they depend upon one another. And together they form the mode of reception structure in ideological and political education.The author analyses the whole process of the reception in ideological and political education. He thinks that this process consists of four links: the link of the formation of reception standards, the link of obtaining and receiving information, the link of integrating and internalizing the information and the link of externalizing and practising the information.The author also makes a study of the law of the reception in ideological and political education. He points out that the law of adaptive needs, the law of methodological adaptation and the law of surrounding influence constitute the foundamental laws in ideological and political education.The author, from the research in this respect, draws a great deal of inspiration. First of all, we should transform the old concepts and build up a strong team in ideological and political education. Such a team, because of possessing new qualities, can adapt itself to new situations, and, in accordance with the new requirements, perform its duty by applying different methods. Secondly, we should act in the light of the laws and the reception principles in ideological and political education. We should place people above everything else, and tackle both ideological problems and practical difficulties. We should convince people through our true feelings and by reasoning. Thirdly, we should advance with the times, and update contents in ideological and political education and bring about good results in ideological and political education. In selecting contents, we should keep in mind that they not only are advanced, and reflect the characteristics of the current development of the society, but also are suitable and specific for different people. Fourthly, we should always change and improve the methods in ideological and political education in accordance with the situation. The past experience shows that the following methods are feasible and effective: a).We should understand the receptors psychological features accurately and arouse the active factors in themselves;b).We should democratize our education methods, get rid of the compulsory and closed methods, adopt methods of heuristics, openness and self-education, and bring into full play the initiatives of the people who are educated;c).We should combine the methods of instructing with the ones of experiencing, and combine the instillation methods with dialogue;d).We should make full use of modern media;e).We should adopt the method of educating and convincing people through our true feeling and by reasoning.
