Since the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949, the government aimed at the construction and unification of Europe. From the Prime Minister Konrad Adennauer, all the previous federal Prime Ministers put the European policy in the first place of German diplomatic policy. This thesis reviews the course of change and development of German European policy, analyzing the basic features of German EU policy, internal motivation and the external effects since the establishment of Gerhard Schroder government. And it also puts emphasis on the research of how the German government and society participated in the European affairs and their influence on the process of European unification after the EU eastern enlargement in 2004.Focusing on German EU policy, the thesis discusses the basic features of German participation in the process of EU unification, internal motivation and the effects on EU from the perspectives of both government and society. Under the background of the EU development in depth, it prospects for how the government adjusts its EU policy, takes initiative to resolve the present domestic economic crisis, and how the government promotes the development of EU unification in depth through increasing domestic economic developing speed as well as fulfilling its diplomatic goals.The thesis intends to summarize the basic features and the advanced ideas of German EU policy through analyzing the EU policy of German government, which, to some extent, plays a consulting role in the development of Eastern Asia integration.
