China's society, at its present stage of transition, is faced with comedown in belief and unbalance in morality, which demand urgent ethical reconstruction. Meanwhile, Chinese traditional ethical civilization contains splendid resources for the modern society to study and utilize. Mencius' Dotrine of Human Nature, which uplifts goodness of human beings, stresses ethical self-development, and advocates lofty philosophy of life, has significant meanings to current ethical rebuilding. Mencius believed the essence of ethics was the Heaven and the reverence to it can naturally nurture in each individual virtues and reverence for ethics. Actually such type of reverence, running through the history of Confucius tradition, comprises pivotal premise for developing ethical practice. Thus, it should be extremely feasible approach to contemporary ethical reconstruction by embracing our glorious ethical traditions and tapping resources from Mencius' Doctrine of ethical reverence.The first part of the article analyzes the ethical situations of current world. From the angle of weakening individual ethics and social groups' ethics, the article also analyzes the ponderance of unbalance in morality in the current world, the reasons of which are the transition of social structure, the prejudice in transitional society and the traditional break in inheriting the culture.The second part emphasizes the relationship between Mencius' Doctrine of Human Nature and the notion of the reverence to ethics, analyzing the establishment of the reverence to ethics in Mencius' Doctrine of Human Nature, mentioning that the reverence to ethics is the hardcore in traditional ethical culture, and demonstrating the significance of the reverence to ethics in shaping man's personality.The third part discusses ways to build up the notion of the reverence to ethics in social ethical construction, with human beings at the core, reasonably inheriting the ethical tradition and strengthening social education, which aims at self-identity of the public, accordingly being transferred to internal belief and works hard to construct ethical society.
