Korean Peninsula is on the east of Euroasia , with Sea of Japan on its east , Yellow Sea on its west , China on its north , a 16.5km-long frontier with Russia on its north-east , Japan on its south-east . As a special geography part from continent to ocean . a"bulge front"on the east end of Asian Continent and geography center of north-east Asia , Korean Peninsula has a peculiar and notable strategic feature on geography . Theoretically , Korean Peninsula is not only the last shield of continent countries faced to the east , but also the first land attacked by ocean countries from west . It still holds a strategic point of shipping line through north-east ocean . The Sea of Japan is inside Korean Peninsula Channel , which is the most important area that navy of USA , Russia and Japan move in . That's the reason why Russia value the strategic status of Korean Peninsula .Russia has always followed western policy from the beginning of its independence in 1992 . That made Russia implement a foreign policy prior to ROK on Korean Peninsula. Though this policy put forward the relationship between Russia and ROK , it also made Russia lose its traditional effect on NK . Russia changed its policy towards Korean Peninsula to "half-to-half"after 1994 , which made Russia reinstate its effect on this area partly . After Putin being the president of Russia , he put active efforts on foreign affais in order to make Russia a big nation again . From then on , Russia took a policy prior to NK . As one of few countries which has normal relationship with NK , Russia made an active mediate effect to be a medium in the process of cooperation and reconciliation between the north and the south . The aim of this article choose Russia's Korean Peninsula policy as theme , is to presume the future of the policy through historical evolution .There are 6 parts in this article . The 1st part elaborated the changing process of Russia's Korean Peninsula policy . Russia first took a policy of put ROK prior to NK , then put the two nations"half-to-half", at last put relationship with NK to a higher position .
