Those factors like industrialization, urbanization, the fast economic growth, unreasonable exploitation and overexploitation of natural resource all help to destroy the environment. Both the male and the female are bound to suffer in this unsustainable and unfair development mode. But, the deterioration of the environment can cause more damage to and exert more direct influence on women's life and health, for they play different role from men in work and they are discriminated in social systems and structures. Meanwhile, that women are sensitive to the issues concerning human health and survival and that they are the creators of material progress, the managers of daily life and the main consumers determine that they also become the main force in driving the environmental protection and the sustainable development. The theory on women, the environment and the sustainable development is still new, which is to be further studied.Social gender, as one of the successful theories of the world feminism, has been broadly recognized in international society and has become an important concept to explain and analyze social issues. This theory mainly does research in the differences between the male and the female in social gender, their roles in society and the systems of social gender. This thesis tries to look at the connections among Chinese women, the environmental protection and the sustainable development. It studies the influence of the environment on women, the influence of women on the environment and women's status and role in the environmental protection, in the hope that it can provide some useful information to Chinese women's liberation and the realization of the sustainable development. The thesis mainly focuses on these aspects like poverty, population, agriculture and consumption, for they are main factors in China's environment and sustainable development and they are closely connected with women issues.
