After the cold war, the United States' status became more prominent in the world political structure. Therefore, the American foreign policy catches the world's eyes, especially that the double standard of its foreign policy greatly influences the world arises more attention. This policy appeared before the cold war; however, it became more overt after the cold war. The double standard of the American foreign policy has the profound historical, cultural and realistic roots. The double standard of the American foreign policy is not related to only American comprehensive strength, the powerful economic, political, military and scientific strength, but also to American culture, religion, nation and political tradition. In fact, the double standard of the American foreign policy is the hegemonism, the unilateralism and the pragmatism. The consequences will not only influence the essential national interests and its relations with other countries directly, but also influence the regional security and the world structure greatly.Through analyzing the reasons why US adopted the double standard of foreign policy, this thesis exposes the real intention of the foreign policy and produced various effects, we try to point out the challenge of this policy, and to express its basical framework.
