Research On Network Theft Crime

The development of the Internet brings people a lot of benefits and convenience. Meanwhile, it brings along various online crimes. In particular, online theft, as the cyber version of a traditional crime, is widespread in the Internet and has become a new crime based on the web. It has caused continuous damage to web security, netizens'interest, and public assets, with a very detrimental influence. This thesis considers online theft in three aspects, analyzes the concept, features, types and causes of online theft through various typical data and information, probes in the underlying causes of online theft, and proposes some countermeasures.The first chapter is a general introduction to online theft. Firstly, the concept of online theft is defined, explaining the difference between online theft and traditional theft in criminal means and tools. Secondly, cases of online theft are classified into four main kinds: stealing E-money in online banking, stealing online service, stealing virtual online property, and stealing by means of"online fishing". Some typical cases of online property damage are cited to support the argument. Thirdly, an analysis of the essential components and main features of online theft is made to reveal the innate rules and superficial appearance of online theft and provide methods to prevent antitheft.The second chapter discusses the causes of online theft in China. Firstly, the crime psychology of the online thieves is analyzed to find out their mental state and the psychological causes of online theft. Secondly, the objective factor of online theft is discussed, including the vulnerability of the cyber systems, the carelessness of victims, insufficient punishment imposed on online theft, and loophole of cyber inspection.The third chapter discusses the countermeasures against online theft. Based on the analysis of the first and second chapters, the chapter deals with countermeasures in five aspects, with a view to building up an all-around online theft prevention and treatment system. First, we will reinforce the moral education of netizens, and help them develop righteous cyber ethics and morality, help young people to have a correct understanding of the use of Internet so that they will fight against and refrain from online theft. Secondly, we should improve IT security and the precautions against online theft. Thirdly, netizens should take precautions during their use of the Internet and reinforce the cyber security measures from time to time to prevent online theft. Fourthly, we should improve our legal system and the relevant laws. Some suggestions are made on enacting cyber security law, and implementing true name in Internet. Fifthly, we should strengthen the inspection and monitor abilities of the cyber control team, build up a cyber police force, develop the cyber alarming function, and exercise stricter control on virtual communities, so as to lay a solid foundation for cracking down and preventing online theft.
