This thesis focuses on the research of authoritarianism. In the meanwhile, it generalizes the characters of the Southeast Asian authoritarianism. Furthermore, it makes a conclusion of the Singapore authoritarianism's being created, its core traits and its achievements. On this basis, it introduces Singapore's development of economy and the challenges it encountered since 1980s. It also explains the PAP's concrete endeavors to upgrade its government. Eventually, it discusses some issues about the Singapore's authoritarianism politics. This thesis is composed of four parts:Firstly, it is about the study of authoritarianism. It explains the popularity, the modernity and the transition of authoritarianism. It also generalizes the traits of Southeast Asian authoritarianism.Secondly, it generalizes the development of Singapore's authoritarianism politics from the Independence to the 1980s. In the meantime, it clarifies the characteristics of the early authoritarianism of Singapore.Thirdly, it pays attention to the new challenges the PAP faced and the transfer of the leadership style of PAP. This transfer included some details, which are the presidents' being chosen by the people, the enlargement of congress democracy, the development of the public's participation of politics and the progress of E-executive management.Eventually, on the basis of what were told, it makes a further step to explain the rationality of Singapore's authoritarianism, the threats which encounters, the trends of development and the points which we can learn to upgrade our own politics situation.
