A Research On American Two-Party System

Two-party system, as the main content of the party system,is an important component of American political system. Since the 18th century, when the two-party system came into being, it has undergone many times of differentiation and aggregate in the development. Till now, the two-party system has a large scale after a number of historical periods, which are sprouting, primary formation, final establishment and continuous development. It can be said that the establishment of two-party system is the inevitable result, and also the reflection of the development and variety of the American history and reality. As an essential element of American political structure, two-party system distinguishes itself with structural characteristics, specially, with winning the position of president being the main aim, the political divide between the two parties being subtle, the divergence on the ideology being slight and stability, etc.Two-party system in the political life in the United States has a significant status and role. It not only affects the functioning of the United States political system, but also monopolizes the political power. The functions of the two-party system have two aspects. Positively, it can give great impetus to democracy of American politics and also is an advantage to the stability of political situation. Negatively, it characterizes with cheating the masses and politics controlled by money, as is the reflection of limitations and shortcomings of the American two-party system.Since the early 20th century , especially the world war II ,the American two -party system has been on the decline,which raises people's argument over the trend of the development of this system.The author believed that as an important part of the American political system,the two - party system will exist in American political life for long and continue to play an influential rule.Whether the two - party system can be free from the present trend and resurrect depends on the changes of American political and social environment as well as whether the two - party system can make some reforms and adjustments in time.By expounding and analysing the American two - party system's developed process,its charalteristics,we make a summary:First,the American two - party system is based on American society,is rooted in American history and is the result of American social economy, politics and cultural tradition acting on each other Second,being the product of the American capitalist system and an important component,the two - party system serves the bourgeoisie in essence and it is also the means that the bourgeoisie take to dominate society, Third,while we criticize American two - party system,it's necessary to absorb the mature experience in its operation and use for reference,which is beneficial to the construction of our country's political party such absorption and uses for reference are embodied. Emphatically in four aspects,that is,paying attention to the development of the political party's functions,introducing inner - party competitive system,maintaining close ties between the ruling party and people and strengthening the cooperation with each kind of mass organizations.
