The reform of Peter the Great had played a very important role in Russian history. The reform had obtained a remarkable achievement and since then had drawn Russia toward a different path from before to its development, imposing a far-reaching influence upon Russian history. Amongst such a reform, Peter′s measures taken to the Russian Orthodoxy Church were noticeable. Through a series of effective measures, Peter finally had caused the Church under the control of the Tsarist government; because of this, the relations of Russian politics to the Church had been included in a rebuilt framework of relations, of which a notable and significant fact is that the position of Russian Orthodoxy Church declined. Taking into consideration the historical setting of the religious reform of Peter the Great, the situation of the practice of the policy for the reform, and its influence, the author spreads her narrative and analysis in the following paragraphs. According to the need of the narrative and analysis, the framework of this paper is prepared as follows:The paper can be divided into three major parts: the foreword, the text, and the conclusion.The foreword briefly introduces the present situation of the academic research in this domain, the value of the author's study, and the major problems that the paper will deal with.The text is made up of three parts:The first makes a concise portrayal of Russia in both the pre-Peter and Peter periods, that is, the historical setting of the reform of Peter the Great.The second mainly probes into the policy of Peter the Great for the religious reform and its real practice.The third aims at exposing the far-reaching influence of Peter the Great′s religious policy over Russian centralized system, Russian secular powers, Russian national culture, and the Russian Orthodoxy Church.The conclusion summarizes the historical significance of Peter the Great′s religious policy, deepening the understanding of the religious reform of Peter the Great.
