The policy of America toward China was complex and contradictory early after the war. If we investigate the policy of America toward China in accordance with the then international background, we might have a better awareness and understanding of that policy by analyzing the post-war international situation, looking into its diplomatic tradition, and taking into account its knowledge of Soviet Union. After world war II ,the emphasis of American global diplomatic strategy was on containing communism, Soviet Union ,and the same could be said of its policy toward China. The policy was: to establish a coalition government that is under the leadership of Chiang Kai-shek and with the participation of Communist Party of China and other major parties; to promote Chinese independence, stability and unification thus making China as a barrier against Soviet UnionTo achieve the goal it set in its policy toward China, America had adopted active measures. However, the victory of Communist Party of China, the road toward its socialist cause it was going to embark after the victory, was a trend of china's history. These were what America couldn't stop, and its policy toward China would end up in a failure.
