Most of the Asian immigrants in the US are from China. The history of Chinese immigrants to America can be dated back to late 1840s, or even earlier. However, during 61-year-long time from 1882 to 1943, the population of Chinese people in America was barely increased due to the enactment of the Chinese Exclusion Act. Most Chinese people in the US then were single males who were forced into being an isolated bachelors'society. The Chinese American community suffered from a highly skewed sex ratio. The situation of population imbalance had not been improved until the repeal of the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1943. After that, the Chinese American population began to grow slowly. Since the enactment of the Hart-Cellar Act in 1965, the size of the Chinese American population has increased exponentially and doubled every 10 years. The community has achieved a balance sex ratio and has become increasingly diverse. At the dawn of 21st century, the ethnic population continues to grow rapidly, transforming the community from a predominantly immigrant community to a native ethnic community. The quantity of the immigration population and the geographical position of the population distribution are unsteady during different periods, which is closely linked with the political relationship between China and the US. Besides, it in turn affects the social economy development of the two countries.
