A Study Of Rorty's Ethnocentrism

Traditional western philosophy has fallen into a decline as a result of the inherent logic of the globalization and the circumstances of the postmodern society directly,and breeds innovation and hope in the future development of the philosophy.As a typical representative of New-Pragmatism,Rorty is one of the most conscious philosophers who have tried to put forward new ideas and launch the philosophy revolution. He established his famous Ethnocentrism through his critique on "Mirror-philosophy",about the characters of foundationalism, representationalism,and essentialism of it.As to traditional metaphysics, he offered a firm opposition.His Ethnocentrism refers to the mankind's actual circumstances of the existence in post-philosophical culture.It can be said that Rorty's Ethnocentrism is a different solution to the country and the nation,groups of common ground while reserving differences between the positive and try to plan the ideal.The first part of the article deals with the background and the origin of theories of Rorty's Ethnocentrism.As for the background,since the 1960s,under the new globalization of economic,political,cultural and social integration of multiple trends in science and technology under the double-edged nature of the tool brought about by rational people "alienation" to highlight the theme of philosophy and cultural studies Conversion.As to the origin of theories,there are a lot.Such as the truth view of Classic pragmatism,the theory of philosophical hermeneutics of Gadamer,his theory attached great importance to dialogue with history, using open dialogic structure.On the basis of Habermas' theory of communicative action,he thought it one of the ways to realize action rationalization to choose languages to dialogue.He also stressed the intersubjectivity in dialogue.In addition,Rorty is a philosopher who transfers from analytic philosophy to pragmatism.He owes much to the attribution theory of the psychology,too.The second part of the article deals with the "cultural imperialism" While our analysis is focused on the analysis of Rorty' Ethnocentrism,the connotation is a shared.In Rorty's eyes,the Ethnocentrism should take the solidarity as the aim,and pay more attention to realistic life. Developing the idea of no-mirror truth,Rorty thought the truth was a kind of the common trust,common agreement and common contentment ideas in their social experiences,and expressive satisfied adjectives but has the trend to become nouns.People no longer pursue metaphysics and absolute truth but pay more attention to the social things.It concerns three points:Solidarity replaces Objectivity;truth and value penetrate each other,truth and belief in the value of integration,as well as language and history.Its essence is not only the view of truth re-contextualization, but also multi-mode dialogue regard as a way of ideas interaction.In the third part of the article,we relate Rorty' Ethnocentrism with Marxism theory of truth.Rorty' Ethnocentrism is Constructive to think that it can promote the culture to reach agreement and communicate with dialogue,the realization of people-focused care,develop innovative thinking,to promote "harmonious world" to construct,while it is wrong to overstate the relativity of truth,to negate totally the existence of absolute truth,and to advocate a subjective,relative and pluralistic theory of truth.It is also limited by the lack of practice and standards for the process about truth.
