The "Red songs" plays an important role of Chinese "Red culture". It's an essential element of the advanced socialist culture. It has inherited and advanced the great revolutionary, fighting and patriotic spirit of Chinese Communist Party and its people. During the new period of reform and opening up, singing "Red songs" is especially of great significance for the consolidation of the culture's soft power, the cohesion of national strength, the expression of patriotism and the enhancement of the national pride.The paper consists of four parts.The first part: an overview of the "red songs" and patriotism. "Red songs" refers to the excellent work of songs created by the communists and people, that promote the revolutionary, fighting spirit and eulogize unity and integrity, being of positive content and strong infectivity. Compared with other songs, it has richer features of time and artistic characteristics. Its content is healthier, of a more distinct temporal spirit, characteristic of the masses of people and intensely emotion stirring quality. Patriotism refers to people's profound love for the nation and the sensible and positive actions dominated by their love to maintain the interest of the nation. It is above classes, strongly oriented, of distinct level and developmental changeability. The relation between "red songs" and patriotism is embodied as the relation between form and content. Patriotism is an important theme for the "red songs" while the "red songs" is the effective carrier of patriotism.The second part: the historical development of "red songs" and their features in current stage. In China, the developing process of "red songs" can be roughly divided into three phases, namely, democratic revolution phase (1919—1949), socialism construction phase (1949—1978) and the new phase of opening-up(1978—now). In different phases, "red songs" have different epochal features, and express different patriotic emotions. This part reviews the historical development of "red songs" in different phases, and shows us the different patriotic emotions that "red songs" embodies in different phases. The third part: The salient manifestation that the educational function of "red songs" for patriotism present. In different historical phases, "red songs" perform differently in patriotism education. In democratic revolution phase, "red songs" blow the clarion of struggling forward, and encourage the revolutionary enthusiasm of the whole country to fight against imperialism and feudalism. In the phase of socialism revolution and construction, "red songs" render all the people love and construct our country, they inspire our work enthusiasm, and make us stay together. In the new phase of opening-up, "red songs" express our wish for "Harmonious China" and the true feeling of our age. They become strongly affective. This part makes a systematic research on the educational function of "red songs" for patriotism in different phases.The fourth part: Sing the "red songs", and vigorously advance the national patriotism. In this part, an insightful thinking of how to motivate the singing of the Red songs is made. A long last and efficient mechanism for the singing of the "red songs" should be established and perfected so that the singing of the "red songs" could be systemized and standardized. The platform of singing "red songs" should be continuously widened so that more people can have the chance to receive the education of patriotism. The artistic form of the red songs should be revolutionized and the artistic character of the education for patriotism should be strengthened. The "red songs" should be regarded as a significant form of education for patriotism to educate the people with the "red song" spirit.The paper is organized by a researching method combining theory and practice, history and reality. The value of this method is to provide a new theoretical perspective for the establishment of socialism's core value through learning the theory and practice of the "red song" singing and analyzing its history and reality.
