In the West, due to the specific cultural background, religious criticism from modern times, has become one of the main discourse of philosophy. Conscious of the criticism of religion is a philosophy of self-demands in the new period. Marx is not a religious studies experts,and religious criticism is not the central idea of Marx, but Marx has reached critical of religion which does not meet our predecessors thoroughness. In Marx's opinion , the old philosophical position is civil society and the position of the new philosophy of human society. Criticism of the old philosophy of religion to recognize the rationality of the civil society premised on the Marxist critique is to be the secular roots of religion - civil society.
