In exploring the situation in Darfur, the study used in-depth analyses of the discourse on Darfur. Among the documents studied were scholarly, diplomatic and newspaper articles. Great attention is paid to the role of China and its participation in the peacekeeping efforts while maintaining the principle of non-interference. The complexities surrounding the conflict are taken into consideration and the paper is geared towards looking into the real issues being spelled out by the warring parties as opposed to looking at the consequences of the conflict. Although the conflict has yet to be resolved, the study indicates that China has made significant contributions. China has been guided by the need to preserve the sovereignty of Sudan as per the principle of non-interference, which is also upheld by the UN. A critical assessment of Chapter VII of the UN Charter has also been carried out with regards to the resolution of civil conflicts. | Keywords/Search Tags: | Peacekeeping, humanitarian intervention, conflict resolution, civil conflict, interstate and intra-state conflict, Darfur, China, Sudan, Janjaweed militia, JEM, UNAMID, UNMIS | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
