Conflict subject is a relative new area of study in our country. First of all, thisthesis concludes and categorizes the definition of conflict, especially re-analyzes thetraditional definition of conflict to supplement and expound the connotation andextension of conflict, making the concept manageable to the conflict in the thesis. Byanalyzing the responding strategy induced by the conflict research, the thesisre-defines and analyzes the concept of conflict resolution, and elaborates the modes ofconflict resolution so as to have a clear view on the advantages and disadvantages ofconflict resolution on dealing with conflicts. Next, according to the U-curve model ofconflict life cycle, the thesis applies the analysis to the other two strategies of conflictresponse: conflict prevention and conflict management. Through the comparison, thethesis arrives at a conclusion that both conflict prevention and conflict resolution havetheir inherent weaknesses. Thanks to the fact of international relations, conflictmanagement is the most effective way to cope with the conflicts in contemporaryinternational relations and foreign affairs. Second, the focal points are on the analysis and elaboration of connotation andapproaches of conflict management, especially the elements of effective management:the co-existence of prerequisites and necessary conditions are the guarantee ofsuccessful conflict management. With the consideration of practical operation ofconflict management, the thesis argues that the establishment of conflict managementmechanism is conducive to the effective management of conflict. So the thesisschemes the theoretical framework to manage conflict and analyzes the function andfeasibility of the conflict management. In addition, the thesis puts forward severalobjects of three levels of conflict management mechanism to guarantee the successfuloperation of mechanism. Third, according to the Chinese diplomatic practice and national security, thethesis applies the above analysis to the North Korea nuclear conflict as a case study.By defining the essence of the problem, the North Korea nuclear conflict, which is akind of soft conflict, will have the potential to damage the national interests of Chinaif the Chinese government does not take positive actions to manage this conflict. Byapplying the theory to the case, the thesis concludes that the response of Chinesediplomacy to the conflict, to some extent, is a series of measures taken based on themanagement of conflict. Initiated and conducted by the Chinese government, thesix-party talks can serve as the framework of conflict management mechanism. Thethesis argues that China should constitute the CM mechanism to safeguard nationalinterests and the stability of the surrounding areas.
