Research On Curriculum Setting Of The United States Coast Guard Academy

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is the professional cultivation institution for the U.S. Coast Guard, and it is an apotheosis of professional cultivation for coast guard around the world as well. As the core of academy education, the curriculum setting plays an important actor for cultivating the U.S Coast Guard professionals in quality and specification enclosing the academy mission as well as its cadet cultivating targets.This thesis uses the U.S. Coast Guard Academy as individual case, and also uses two majors as examples. First, the thesis starts description research with curriculum setting to introduce its status quo and construction. The aim is to depict and analyses the general situation, cultivation target, general curriculum setting and its structure of the two majors. Then it analyzes its characteristics as well as value tropism with nature research. In the thesis, the author points out six characteristics, namely:I the curriculum offering reflects advanced education idea; II the curriculum offering reflects cadet cultivating target of the Academy; III the curriculum offering uses compound mode of curriculum module; IV the Professional Maritime Study reflects the need of basic professional skills;â…¤the selected courses reflects the highly thinking of cadet individual development. At last, basing on the analysis to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, this thesis points out some advices to the Coast Guard Academies in our country, such as:I make the core curriculum as the platform; II follow the guiding of advanced education idea; III insist multivariate value tropism but use the social standard as the mainstay. IV use the political treatise as the dominant education philosophy and care the epistemology as well as life education philosophy.Stones from other hills may serve to polish jade. This thesis gives research to curriculum setting of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and the aim is to ponder the curriculum setting in Coast Guard Academies in our country and to cultivate excellent coast guards for China Coast Guard.
