Authoritarianism is the transitional form between the autocracy and democracy, which comes into being in the transitional process from traditional society to the modern society. Modernization is the process of the modernity of the science, logos, freedom and equality proliferating in the field of the matter, system and value. Japan in the late 20th century and East Asia after World War II all carry out Authoritarianism political system, but along with the advancing and accomplishing of the modernization, East Asian Authoritarianism has to give place to the democracy eventually. Authoritarianism plays an important role in the process of East Asian modernization. The government has a dominant role in the modernization of Japan and The Four Little Dragons. Authoritarianism can afford steady order for Later-development countries'economic development. For its own legitimacy, Authoritarianism could make use of centralized advantage to concentrate on the economic development and realize the modernization. There is no unified definition on the authoritarianism and modernization in the theory horizon. The article makes analysis, induction and conclusion on the base of the predecessors'technical opinions, and draws a conclusion of a main connotation that Authoritarianism is the transition stage between the autocracy and democracy and modernization is the modernity increasing and dilatation on the science, logo, freedom and equality, and makes comparative analysis on the authoritarianism and totalitarianism, authoritarianism and democracy, the measurement criteria of the modernization.The third chapter mainly introduces Eastern Asian Authoritarianism. Due to Japanese forerunner station on the political modernization and the important effect on the other Eastern Asian area, so we analyze Japanese Authoritarianism first, then analyze The Four Little Dragons'Authoritarianism one by one. And finally we make induction and conclusion to the global feature of the Eastern Asian Authoritarianism.The fourth chapter mainly introduces Eastern Asian Modernization. Also Due to Japanese forerunner station on the modernization and the important effect on the other Eastern Asian area even the world, so we analyze Japanese modernization first. Then analyze The Four Little Dragons'modernization. Finally we make induction and conclusion to the Asian-style formed by Asian miracle.The fifth chapter is an induction and conclusion to this article. We make induction and conclusion to the relation between Eastern Asian Authoritarianism and modernization first, and then analyze the meaning of Authoritarianism to Later-development countries'modernization. Bringing forward the necessary condition that Authoritarianism could afford to the Later-development countries'modernization, the necessary condition that Authoritarianism needed to advance Later-development countries'modernization and the political legitimacy evolvement in the process of Later-development countries'modernization.
