Coalition diplomacy means a diplomatic instrument which countries devise to assemble the collective defense organization with a common purpose. After World War II, the United States of America successfully built up a powerful coalition system headed itself through implementing the coalition diplomacy, which plays an essential role for the security and steady growth of the western capitalism countries during the Cold War. Following the Cold War, the American coalition system faced a new round of adjustment and challenge due to the development of the global situation.Analyzing the establishment and the development path of the American coalition system after the World War II, it is not complicated to perceive that the growth of this coalition system evidently features the expansibility, ideology, flexibility, practicality and imparity. Nevertheless, the formation of the path and characteristics comes from the fundamental reason of the American coalition diplomacy, which realizes the America's leadership position in the coalition, as well as pursues the America's global benefits through expansion of coalition.The implementing of American coalition diplomacy after the World War II has great worldwide impact, which compressed the Soviet Union socialism's strategic development space during the Cold War by increasing the bargaining chips for the United States to intervene into other countries' internal affairs, and imposed massive pressure on Russia and China's strategic security environment. Nevertheless, the powerful coalition's support enables the United States of America to have enough faith to challenge United Nations' international authority, and further displays the United States of America's global deterrent effect by strengthening its global superpower status.The American coalition diplomacy did not develop always in a smooth way. In the middle of the course, it encountered all kinds of restrictions and challenges from coalition treaties, allied countries and other international organizations. After the Cold War, the American diplomacy was in the period of transition and influenced by the uncertain factors from many parties. Through increasing more coalition partners and their forces, the American coalition diplomacy will gradually revise the coalition structure which is unsuitable to the time, as well as create more flexible coalition forming methods to adapt to the new threats the American coalition diplomacy may be encountered. As we can foresee, the future of the American coalition diplomacy will enhance its political functions. The United States of America will emphasize'the provisional coalition strategy'. The United States of America and its traditional coalition countries will design and decide the coalition system's forward direction and development process in a more equal status.Coalition diplomacy is a new angle to study the United States of America's diplomacy. By referring to the history development, motivation, characters, impacts, challenges and the future tendency of the American coalition diplomacy after the World War II, we can better comprehend the United States of America's diplomacy strategy and mode, as well as the development and trend of the national relationship in the international community. Meanwhile, it also brings us more attention and thinking on the coalition diplomacy, and magnifies the awareness and alert on the possible threat from the American coalition system.
