Modernity Problems In The Discourse Of Mainstream Ideology In Contemporary China

The process of China's modernization has been through for more than 100 years since the late Qing dynasty. From the Westernization Movement to the May Forth Movement, until the first 30 years of the Republic of China, the road of Chinese modernization has been full of difficulties. The reform and opening up started in 1978, is supposed to be a restart of Chinese modernization. Nowadays, the pursue of modernization was no longer forced but rather on its initiative needs of development. In the late 90s,20 century, with the rising of "post-modern" thought in the western world, "reflecting on modernity" turned out to be a new hotspot in the domestic academic community. Such consciousness of modernity problems actually was a systematically and rationally review of the road of Chinese modernization.The successful process of modernization in contemporary China was directly led by the Communist Party of China (CPC). Thus, the Party's understanding of Chinese modernity and its relevant problems has great deal with the reality. By analyze on the mainstream ideology, we find that on one hand, the CPC stick to the basic rules and the core values of the socialism, with "equal" as the core value of modernity, which was quite different from the western world. On the other hand, under the background of globalization, the decision makers have gain a new understanding on the aims and ways of socialism development, and to provide modernization with system and idea securities by taking in the basic values of modernity.The development of market economic had caused the awareness of individual values and the rising of the civil society, which then promote the process of social democratization. However, modern elements such as marketization, rationization still need further development. Modernity hasn't been turned to be the dominant spirit of the culture and the social system. Many norms are still not yet established or need perfecting. The Chinese modernity is still not finished,while the crisis of modernity had already showed up in Chinese society.It is true that modernity has contradictions and tension involved in itself. But the criticism from post-modernity doesn't mean the end of modernity. In fact, modernity is rather a continuing and self-correcting process which will never stop. Thus, the ways and patterns of modernization should be allowed to be diversified. And modernity in different countries may probably have their unique features. We are supposed to transfer from the old "tradition-modern" analyze pattern to "transfer-innovate" frame, to find out the balance and connection between tradition and modern, which could help us establish a new modern civilization. Besides, when doing research on the construction of Chinese modernization, the ground should be based objectively rather than emotionally, and the special circumstances of Chinese problems should be always bear in mind, with an overall perspective.
