Nowadays, it is vitally important for an individual, an enterprise or a nation to be equipped with team spirit which is regarded as an essential element for personal rising, core competitiveness for enterprises and a magic weapon for national prosperity. Naturally, China, which is on the way to its rejuvenation, is in urgent need for team spirit to make its dream of a powerful nation come true. Therefore, the secondary vocational students who are the basic-level builders of our national dream should acquire the spirit technically. Unfortunately, this is not true from the related analysis to the result of questionnaires which were made to survey the team spirit of those students. However, social and economic development, as well as the corresponding personal training mode established by the Department of Education necessitates the team spirit in secondary school students. And it has become a desperate academic pursuit for the educational circle to explore the ways to cultivate the students'team spirit in effectiveness. With its collective activities as its outstanding feature, physical training plays an irreplaceable part in cultivating students'team spirit by comparison to other subjects so that it has been listed into the new teaching standards of P.E course and entered into the theoretical vision. In consideration of the important part played by physical training, this paper employs the methods of questionnaire, literature review, expert interview, statistic analysis to work out the various causes that secondary vocational students lake the team spirit by surveying their general conditions, state of team spirit and state of team spirit in sports, and investigating their family environment, educational background and mental state. Then it takes the Hierarchy Needs Theory of the behavioral school, Piget's Cognitive Development Theory and Skinner's Reinforcement Theory as its theoretical foundation to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of physical training as an approach and channel to cultivate the students'team spirit with its traits of collectivity, cooperativeness and competitiveness, enjoyment, multi-function and diversity of its teaching contents and forms. The paper proceeds to set up the teaching principles for cultivating their team spirit in accordance with the students'own characteristics, i.e. student oriented, goal directed, flexibility centered, collectivity focused and all-round instruction, followed by the proposal that physical teachers should make a sufficient analysis on physical course books and update their teaching conception so as to turn their students into a great team with the spirit of team awareness, unity, sense of responsibility, full confidence in their team, and the initiative to be in effective cooperation with other team players by using their communication skills and ability. In the following chapter, the paper offers the specific teaching policies of cooperative learning and exercising, outward development, game playing, inter-team contesting and performance evaluation to train the students'team spirit, and discusses the actual benefit of the job, together with the points that should be attended to. At the end of the paper, it concludes with some suggestions.
