Due to the examination-oriented education, some students can not understand the physical training correctly. They lack of interest in physical exercise and do not develop the habit of doing it, therefore PE underachievers'psychological problems are obvious and their health is severely affected. The research objects of this thesis are underachievers in junior high school. The research starts by studying underachievers'psychological problems.The research is divided into survey and experimental stage. In survey stage, PE top students and underachievers in Ba Yi laboratory school of Xin Yi are tested. Their characteristics and causes in every aspect are described objectively. In experimental stage, PE underachievers get regular exercise intervention by making use of extra-curricular activities. Certain PE activities are arranged and cognitive intervention is conducted in terms of the students'physical, psychological characteristics and previous research findings, combined with the school's psychical condition. Study objects are divided into intervention groups, whose teachers organize extra-curricular activities; intervention groups, whose teachers give assignments and student groups work cooperatively; control groups. Study results show that an effective awareness-exercise intervention can improve the PE underachievers'mental health. The effect of group cooperative activities is the best. Finally, advices about transforming PE underachievers in the physical education teaching process are presented according to research findings.
