With the fast development in the21stcentury, the social demand forall-round talents is higher and higher, that’s why education should pay more attention toall-round development of the students. Nowadays, China’s vocational education iscomprehensively promoting quality education. Under the new situation, English hasalways been the tough long-standing problem. Even though it has tried many changesand transformations, it’s still hard to push forward. English teaching cannot meet thesocial demands of talent cultivation, and it’s looking forward to efficient theoreticalguidance. In the meantime, the study and findings of the Theory of MultipleIntelligences give us hope. Teaching staff of secondary vocational schools never stopsearching for efficient way to improve teaching methods, stimulate students’ interest,cultivate students step by step especially the underachievers, and finally improve theEnglish teaching quality. And the Theory of Multiple Intelligences gives us inspirationsand strong theoretical support. The essay mainly analyses the application of the Theoryof Multiple Intelligences in English teaching and transforming underachievers ofsecondary vocational schools. With the Theory of Multiple Intelligences, it aims tomake teaching staff take a whole new look at the underachievers, transform teachingphilosophy, improve teaching methods and reconstruct assessment system, so that theEnglish teaching quality in secondary vocational schools can be improved as a result.The essay researches the application of the Theory of Multiple Intelligences invocational English teaching, including new perspective, causes and transformationstrategies of underachievers. It aims to transform the negative thinking patterns of bothteachers and students, to set up a new weakness-driven-by-strength-oriented teachingmodel based on recognizing students’ strong points, and in the end to reach the ultimategoal of self-actualization.The essay includes six chapters.Chapter One introduces the option of thesis, research actuality at home and abroadof MI theory and its application in teaching, and significance of the study.Chapter Two presents the key points of MI theory, analyses English underachievesunder MI theory and the necessity and feasibility of implicating MI theory to transformunderachievers.Chapter Three surveys the status of English underachievers in secondaryvocational schools and analyses the causes of their formation.Chapter Four concludes the implementation strategies of transforming underachievers with MI theory, including teaching philosophy, teaching process andassessment process.Chapter Five records the transformation process of English underachievers.Chapter Six makes a conclusion to the essay.
