Classroom teaching is the main channel of senior high English teaching. Elicitation method of teaching and case method of teaching are more embodied in "indoctrinatory teaching", while classroom teaching pay more attention to " active participation in classroom teaching". In the "English Curriculum Standards", it is emphasized that English teaching should begin with students' learning interest, life experience and cognition level, advocating experience, practice, participation, cooperation and communication with their ways of learning and teaching approach to the task-based type; and develop the students'comprehensive capabilities of language using; so as to make language learning process become a positive experience of students with the emotions, experience and improve the cultural consciousness and ability of the process of forming independence. The great advantages of classroom discussion:it is particularly stressed that the subjectivity development of students, to build a democratic and open classroom teaching for students, to gradually develop the learning ways of participation, communication and cooperation. Therefore, the classroom discussion in our high school English class is a necessary and feasible option.Our school is an old state-level key senior high school and classroom discussion has received more and more popularity from the front-line teachers. But what is the actuality of English classroom discussion in our school nowadays? Is there anything that needs English teachers and students to focus on? This dissertation mainly researches on the following several points.Firstly, the research actuality of English classroom discussion methods from home and abroad are carded, and that can give me some help from theoretical and practical bases. Secondly, through questionnaires to the students from Seniorâ… andâ…¡and interview with some English teachers from three different grades, both focusing on English class. It can be expected whether classroom discussion and the application of its method will have good effect on the cultivation of students'innovation and cooperation, and whether it can improve the students' English learning ability and marks. At the same time, it is expected to know of the teachers' recognition and attitudes to classroom discussion, reasonable instructions to the students and control over the classroom discussion. And then all these can help to learn about the actuality of English classroom discussion efficiently in our school nowadays and analyse the causes. Finally some proper classroom discussion strategies are based on the result of analyses.According to the survey, the conclusions can be drawn:classroom discussion in a high school English classroom has an important component in our school teachers and students have formed in the consensus, and widely used through senior high school English classroom teaching, it is responded positively by students and at the same time something undesirable exists. Something needs to be enhanced and improved, like the teachers' and students' recognition attitudes to classroom discussion, the teachers'and students'language input and output power and teachers' and students' discussion and assessment process.The full text is divided into five chapters:The first chapter introduces the background, significance and methods about the origin of the study. The second chapter deals with the research actuality of English classroom discussion methods and its theories. The third chapter focuses on the characteristics and types of the classroom discussion. The fourth chapter includes the survey of "classroom discussion" and the analyses of the survey in Senior English. The fifth chapter is a summary of the full text and the further reflection. There are still a lot for us teachers to explore when applying the strategy.
