Ever since last century, the education research combined with some ecologicalprinciples began to receive attention of education field. In April2003, the NationalEnglish Curriculum Standards (NECS) was implemented in China. Since then, thedomestic education field began to pay more and more attention to the real senior highschool English classroom situation as well. Under the guidance of related ecologicalprinciples and theories and the NECS, the thesis chooses the English classroom teachingsituation of Ganzhou No.1Middle School as the object of study and adopt qualitative andquantitative methodologies to observe the question existed in the present Englishclassroom ecosystem in senior high school. Firstly, in order to collect authenticinformation about the present classroom environment, the questionnaire survey isconducted. The author distributes30questionnaires to teachers and300questionnaires tostudents in Ganzhou No.1Middle School, among which25valid questionnaires ofteachers and280valid questionnaire of students are collected. To gain some qualitativeinformation, the semi-structured face-to-face interviews are carried out for20teachersand30students who are randomly chosen in the questionnaire survey group. In themeantime, the class situations of3different-aged teachers are observed. The datacollected is analyzed by Excel. The class situation is presented in the form of classrecord.According to the findings, there does exist imbalances and contradictions, thephenomena are in the aspects of teaching objectives, teaching contents, the students’ andteachers’ roles, the teaching methods, classroom atmosphere and Teaching assessment.According to the NECS, the objectives should be aimed at the realization of students’comprehensive development of English; teachers should transform from the traditionalknowledge transmitter to some other positive roles and meanwhile students should notbe just passive knowledge receivers but play some more active roles in knowledgeassimilation; teaching contents should be selected and arranged on the basis of the NECSinstead of merely language knowledge and language skills; teaching methods andassessment methods should be student-centered instead of merely serving for the resultsof examination. However, in the current senior high school English classroom, in the face of pressure from the National College Entrance Examination and competition betweenschools, language knowledge and language skills have become the focus of Englishclassroom teaching. In the current English classroom, most teachers’ roles are theknowledge transmitter while students’ are the passive knowledge receiver; in thatsituation, teachers tend to adopt the teaching methods of pattern drills and lecture, andstudents are getting used to that teaching patterns. Under this teaching pattern, theclassroom atmosphere is not lively and even boring. Therefore, English loses its functionas the tool of communication, and reduces to the victim of exercise-stuffed teaching.Because of those existing imbalances and contradictions, the present thesis putforward some ecological principles and suggestions for the construction of Englishecological classroom: Build a harmonious relationship between teachers and students;Stimulate the learning potential of the students and improve the teaching efficiency;Construct a good classroom teaching environment; Explore the ecological assessmentsystem. Meanwhile, the thesis has designed an ideal English ecological classroom insenior high school for reference based on the real situation of Ganzhou No.1MiddleSchool.
