Affective education is not in opposition to the cognitive education. It is also a part of education process. It is considered as aspects of attitude, feeling, emotion, or mood. It has been researched and confirmed by linguistic scholars that cognition and emotion depend on each other. If both sides are taken into practice, the learning process will be constructed on a firmer foundation. The positive emotion such as interest, self-esteem, etc. has a direct or indirect influence on English learning. They can not be separated from the other. However, the phenomenon of emphasis on cognition, ignorance of affect still exists broadly in secondary vocational school English learning.The instruments are investigation and experiment. This thesis intends to study learners'three major affective factors: anxiety, interest and self-esteem. This thesis investigates the influence of anxiety, interest and self-esteem on secondary vocational school students'English learning. On the base of theories of affect and affective education, the author did some studies to explore the role of effective education on secondary vocational school English learning. It also probes into the strategies on how to carry out effective education in secondary vocational school English learning.The significance of this thesis is to cultivate the students'positive affect and improve secondary vocational school English learning efficiency. The author selected 90 students in computer major in Gaomi Secondary Vocational School to make a questionnaire survey. Based on the investigation, the author finds that there exists high anxiety in the students'English learning. Most of the subjects have moderate self-esteem, self-confidence in English learning, which can help them succeed in language learning. While those who are not confident of themselves usually choose the manner of inhibition in English classroom to avoid or even give up the opportunity to express their opinions. Most students have little interest in English learning. A teaching experiment lasting from March, 2010 to late June, 2010 was carried out in one of the author's two classes, Class One was the experimental class and the author was the head teacher and Class Two was the control class. The teaching experiment lasting about four months was to solve the existing problems on affective factors by taking the following measures, stimulating the students'interest in English learning, alleviating their anxiety and helping them building confidence. The research indicates that affective education have influence on students'cognitive development and students'positive affect cultivation, and can improve secondary vocational school students'English learning. The author finds that the affective teaching does help students achieve considerable progress. It is found out that students in the experimental class could have better English proficiency than those in the control class under the affective teaching. The research results shows that affective education has advantages to stir up the interest of English learning, increase the confidence of English learning, and reduce the anxiety of English learning. It is beneficial for students to build up positive affect, harmonize the relation between the teachers and the students. Teachers should be aware of the importance of affective factors in the language learning and put affective method in practice.The thesis contains six parts. The first part is introduction, which introduces the purpose and realistic meaning of applying affective teaching in secondary vocational school. The second part is literature review, which mainly discusses the present situation of affective education home and abroad. The third part explains affective theories. The fourth part discusses the function of affect in English teaching through experiment, shows the experimental results and discusses the enlightenment of affective education. The fifth part is the application of affective education in vocational school English teaching. The sixth part is a conclusion of the whole thesis.The study aims to draw more educationists to pay more attention to affect, to promote affective education, to help students form positive affect and to improve secondary vocational English teaching efficiency.
