Vocational education is an important part of our education system. English is also a compulsory basic course for vocational students, and the purpose of learning English is for communication. In recent years, with the continuous expansion of the ordinary high school, the qualities of vocational school students decrease year by year. Vocational school students lacked self-confidence, and formed the bad habit of learning when they were in junior middle school. Therefore, how to develop their oral English has become a challenge. There is a close relationship between affective factors and English teaching and learning. Affective factors in English teaching and learning include affective factors in textbooks, student’s affections and teacher’s affections. The author made an investigation and a discussion of the reality of English teaching and learning in vocational school. In order to know the degree of awareness and practice of affective factors among teachers and students in vocational school, the author did some surveys on teachers and students from vocational schools. Through the analysis of the survey, the study has found that, although the teachers have realized the importance and necessity of using affective factors in English teaching and learning, very few of them have really put them into practice. Some teachers do not have any affective aim in teaching, and some even misunderstand the effect of affective factors.Based on the theoretical discussion and the survey, some constructive ideas are suggested to help the teachers put affective factors into teaching practice in the hope of throwing some insights into the teaching and learning of the English language in vocational schools.
