Comparative Research On The Defensive Abilities Of Both Chinese And Other Participated Teams In The 16th World Championship

The 16th Men's Basketball World Championship drew to an end in Turkey. After six competitive games including group games and quarter-finals, Chinese team got the result of one win and five negative, so lost the chance to qualify for the knockout rounds. But the splendid performance of Chinese team in this championship surprised all the people who concern about Chinese basketball. Before the championship, few people thought highly of this national team without Yao Ming; and someone even said that this team just came to exercise for the following Guangzhou Asian Games and London Olympic Games in 2012. Nevertheless, this Chinese team impressed us deeply with their progress on both ends as well as their striving spirit.Researching the relevant indexes and influential factors of defensive abilities between the Chinese team and other participated teams comparatively, and find progress of Chinese team in defense as well as differences from the top-ranked teams in the world.; sum up the experiences and draw the lessons, and provide referential data for the Chinese team's future development. This paper uses the research methods of documentary data, questionnaire survey, video observation, mathematical statistics, comparative analysis, etc.Research results:⑴In this World Championship, the Chinese has advantages in the indexes of stealing the ball, cause the rival's violations, affect the rival to miss shots, defensive rebound, defensive foul; but the difference isn't obvious. . These indexes proves that the Chinese team has improved in the defensive abilities in this World Championship. ⑵Chinese team has no influence when the rival shoots; and about the indexes of help defense, nut cap, technical foul, the Chinese team still has distance with other participated teams, but not too big. As for the blocks, the Chinese team falls obviously which has much to do with Yao Ming's injure.⑶Chinese team has obvious difference with other participated teams in the index of letting the rivals get the offensive rebounds. The more offensive rebounds does the participated team get, the more second chances they will achieve and also get more chances to attack; and this is the main reason that Chinese team hasn't broken through in this World Championship. As for the index of letting the rival get offensive foul in defense, Chinese team is obviously better than the rival which is relevant with the characteristics of the Asian athletes, i.e. short, fast and flexible.⑷As for the influential factor of defense, the Chinese team has got great progress in physical abilities, defensive tactics, defensive awareness, playing style, etc.; however, there's still a obvious gap from the top-ranked teams in the world.⑸Chinese team improved obviously in the integral defense than ever before, but still has a gap with other participated teams.
