Study On The Status Quo ,reason And Resolution Of The Income Gap Between Woman And Man In China

After the May 4th Movement in 1919,women in China go out to take part in the economic domain so as to seek their own independence. Since the foundation of the new China,the equal right of employment between woman and man is achieved by the law based on which the economic and social status of women has been extremely promoted. And the universal employment of women has been achieved to become a common practice under the planned economy system. However, with the disintegration of that system, China has been in a transitional period in which the income gap between woman and man is progressively largened. This phenomenon is closely related to the structure of employment, such as feminization of the irregular and agricultural employment, which are two main trends of the woman's employment at present. They badly reduce women's income for these departments'low income level. The reasons for these trends are as the backwardness in women's education or training, the negative effect of traditional gender consciousness and the low social rank of women which can be eventually attributed to the gender alienation. Based on the analysis of the western thinkers'theories of alienation and the definition of alienation of the contents and scope, I finally find the phenomenon named gender alienation which is a particular form of alienation and research it as the creation in this thesis. The connotation of gender alienation is a process and status that people are oppressed by their gender and reduced from subject to object, so they suffer from the mental and physical torture,especially women. The main contributor of gender alienation is patriarchy and private property, and the ultimate is the fixed gender roles.It is no doubt that the Marxist theory of the alienation in work and the views of socialists can provide a scientific foundation to the analysis and resolution of this problem. Fourier, Engels and Bebel not only described the history and status quo of women, but also gave many helpful suggestions for women's liberation. For instance, Fourier emphasized free will, free marriage and political liberty. Engels held the idea that women should return to work, and the industrialized society could provide such conditions. Bebel's study showed that women in the early human society had high status which is closely related to their knowledge and predictive power. Therefore, he gave particular prominence to the education and cultivation for women's abilities. They all pinned their hope on women's liberation for its promoting effect in socialist revolution. The fundamental measure is to eliminate patriarchy and private property, and get rid of fixed gender roles. There are five specific measures: breaking away from alienation and restoring human's subjectivity, enhancing women's training inputs and educational level,perfecting the articles and enforcement of laws and regulations, exploiting the guiding role of our government and modifying social security system which are put forward based on the analysis of the causes of gender income gap and the related discussion of socialist theorists. The equality and harmony between woman and man depends on the full development of people who are free as a whole. That is to say, getting rid of the gender alienation also means the sustainable development of the society. In modern China, the woman has entered a new period because the basic national policy of gender equality has been put into practice not only staying in the theoretical level.
