| Language plays a very important part in culture since much of the culture is maintained, created and expressed through language. Language and culture are closely related, each influencing and shaping the other. With the knowledge of phonemic, syntactic and semantic rules of the target language, it is possible to create sentences without grammatical or lexical mistakes. But one still is incapable of communicating successfully in English-speaking contexts due to their failure to comprehend sociolinguistic rules. However, because of the current testing system, academic proficiency of teachers, and attitude of students and so on, culture introduction has been ignored in middle school. Therefore, students'cross-cultural competence is poorly developed.How is the level of cross-cultural communicative competence of middle school students? How to foster middle school students'cross-cultural communicative competence? The writer of the thesis has tested 60 middle school students in No. 1 Vocational Middle School in Fushun, about their cross-cultural communicative skill, as well as those students that had participated in the test on the teaching and learning of cross-cultural communication by means of questionnaires. Through the results of the test and questionnaire, the writer knows middle school students'cross-cultural communicative competence level, explores the factors to influence, and tries to find out the methods to improve middle school students'cross-cultural communicative competence.At last, the writer suggests the content of intercultural teaching and approaches to promoting students'cross-cultural communication competence. |
