This article discribes the author's research results, the design of a school-based mathematics course according to student individual differences, the practice and the insight of implementing the teaching methods in new curriculum environment.First, the article explores literature in this area and presents the research background, the current development in this field, the purpose and the significance of the research as well as research methods employed. Then, the article discusses the requirements of the new curriculum and the present situation of mathematics teaching in middle school. It explains the connotation and characteristics of school-based curriculum, the procedure and the strategy of the course design. It also introduces to the readers the preparation for the course design, including analysis of the types of differences, their effect on teaching and the comparison of individual differences between students. Finally, the article puts forward several teaching strategies and proposals such as the implementation of teaching according to individual differences in and outside the classroom, the assessment and factors which affect the result of the teaching. In this part, by means of interview and questionnaire, the status quo and students' interest in mathematics learning are presented, as well as their purpose, methods applied, and their experience of learning mathematics. A better understanding of student individual differences, areas of their potential and their future development in mathematics learning is achieved. Based on all these, a teaching procedure is designed, targeting individual differences by motivating self-learning and group cooperation. Through case studies, the author shares her teaching practice in classroom and experience of implementing the new teaching methods. At the same time, the differences between the present classroom teaching, traditional teaching and their results are compared In the course which is developed by the staff members, individual differences are fully considered so that the course caters for all the students to enhance students'performance in learning as well as gain flexible management in teaching.
