English learning motivation is one of the most important non-intellectual factors that influence students'performance in language learning.The efficiency of English learning is largely affected by both intrinsic and extrinsic drive.Intrinsic drive includes surface motivation and achievement motivation, while extrinsic drive includes interest motivation,integrative motivation, or deep motivation.Firstly, the thesis introduces the background information and meaning about sports school students'English learning motivation, states the theories related to foreign language learning motivation, analyses the domestic and foreign studies on motivation research. According to a series of motivation theories, this research conducts a survey on sports school in Wuxi from both qualitative and quantitative research approach. The data collected are processed by computer for further analysis, including frequency t-test mean square deviation. Furthermore,the research also investigates the relationship between students'learning motivation and family background. Meanwhile, other non-intellectual factors are taken into consideration as well.The result shows the types and level of motivation which sports school students belong to.There are significant differences between male and female in foreign language learning motivation. The female is more highly motivated than the male in learning English. There are also significant differences among different grades.The lower their grade,the higher their motivation. Education background of their fathers does not show a significant influence on students'motivation Education background of their mothers shows some influence on students'motivation. Students in different places of birth seem to have some difference in English learning motivation. Parents who are strict with their children seem to more influence on students' motivation than those who are not strict with their children. The research shows that the situation for study has indirect influence on students'motivation. Finally, according to the result of the thesis, some suggestions of teaching English have been proposed for improving students'English learning motivation in sports school.
