Ye Shengtao, a famous Chinese literature and educator, has an accurate knowledge of the situation of our country and education of that turbulent days in which he was born. During the modern times, suffering from the exploitation of imperialistic interests and feudal conservative groups, Chinese laboring people lived in extreme misery. People from all walks of life took saving the nation from extinction as first priority and nearly universally acknowledged education as the best way. Ye contended that education should start from children, the future of our country. And only by strengthening the cultivation of and the investment in children could there be hopes for our country and could people get liberated to be the masters. Ye always adopted realism to reveal the darkness of China and the miserable and desperate life of the people at that time. He pointed out that "beauty" and "love" was the prerequisite to transit a "gloomy life" to a "radiant life". He hoped to gradually cultivate children to be all-round and qualified citizens in pursuit of beauty and love. This was the theme thoroughly embodied by his thoughts and practice of education, aesthetic and creative writing. During Ye's over 70 years of educating, he created lots of educational works with profound effects and great popularity, pointed out the way and direction for the development of children education, and made a great contribution to the development and promotion of Chinese education.Mr. Ye's great contribution to education arouses our enthusiasm to study his thought. Currently, there're already many excellent thesis on Ye's works and theory by Chinese scholars on Chinese data base. However, there are few studies on Ye's ideas of aesthetic education. Perhaps it has something to do with the view put in his Physical Education, Moral Character and Aesthetics。He thought: "Should we add aesthetic education to moral, intelligent and physical educations and make them Four Educations? Judging by common sense, I think importance should certainly be attached to aesthetics, but it is unnecessary to set it as another new education. We can include it in moral education". Despite this, we still should not ignore his significant contribution to aesthetic education, especially that on children.This essay mainly talks about Ye's great contribution to aesthetic education on children to offer reference for further study. It not only introduces Ye's aesthetic thought on children education, but also confirms the reasonable part of his aesthetic education. Meanwhile it points out the unreasonable factors and find out the solutions to these problems. That is exactly where the value of this essay lies. This essay consists of following five parts:first, a brief introduction of Ye Shengtao's lifelong resume, enabling people to have an awareness of what Ye was like; second, the setting of the birth of his aesthetic education ideology on children, finding from aspects of time and current education; third, main content of Ye's aesthetic education ideology on children; forth, the rationality and limitations of his aesthetic education on children; fifth, finding out solutions from an angle of educational problems existing in modern times to push forward the development of aesthetic education on children.
